Re: What does Straylight mean to you?
Thu, February 28, 2008 - 5:46 PMWell in a nutshell I think it means a variety of things to everyone who partakes in these gatherings. For many it's just that "free party where everyone can get as whacky as they want to with little consequence", others find it to be a very important psycho-social/spiritual time for reflection and finding real inner peace (that's what it means to me anyway), for some it's a chance to see what all the fuss is about, among numerous other reasons.
Whatever the meaning is to others, I think Straylight is what the scene was originally intended to be (sans the drugged out 19-year-old glowstick craze for which we are unfortunately known to the general public)- a place where people can come together, enjoy themselves, each other, the universe, and the most fundamental aspects of being human, without the social constructs of what a lot of other promotion companies have been riding for YEARS.
No alligator or fuzzy boots (Club Mighty- ewww!), no need to impress people you may never see again (unless either of you wants to, just for the simple fact that you like one another), no "techno-kid" bandanas and converse shoes, etc.
What I have seen with respect to Straylight kidz and events is a true representation of how we ought to relate to one another on a day-to-day basis. I've worn the shoes of many different religions- from Judaism and Christianity to Navajo rituals and Buddhism. What I have found as a common thread is what I see out there on the dance floor and in the little tents scattered about on that hilltop- a realease of the "self" and a valid understanding of what life is really all about....
I could go on for days, but that's lengthy enough- keep Straylight going, let's show the rest of our complacent population what it means to give a shit about each other and the world in which we live.
As always, I'm here for the cause. :-)
